Dinner plate

Did you know that the colour of your dinner plates influences how much you eat?
Let me give you an example! Apparently the more your food contrasts with your plate, the less you will eat. Simply because the contrast makes you more aware of your food. So do not eat spaghetti carbonara from a white plate! You're better of eating white food from a red plate.
Now onto the good stuff!
You can use this inside knowledge to get your kids to eat more greens! Just serve them up on a green plate. Your kid will never know how much he ate!
What kind of dinner plates do you use?

  1. I had no idea about this, and if you think about, it really does make sense! I have two sets we rotate through. One is just a solid color, the other has a bright pattern - can we say experiment coming up? Great tip for my diet, too!

  2. I never thought about how plate color affected food consumption. We have several different colors. I'm a bit of a plate junkie! Lol! I'll have to start serving the veggies on our darker plates, instead of our white ones!

  4. I have many different color plates but for the kids we normally use those with cartoon prints like Hello kitty / snoopy to entice them to finish their foods. For the adults its is mostly white plates with minimal prints.

  7. I've always thought that was a great incentive: having to eat your food so you could get to the pretty picture.
