What did you do to your hair?!

Lately when I looked in the mirror I didn't like what I saw.

I saw this haggard looking woman, with messy long hair.

I could of course have tried to get some rest. But who has the time?! So I decided to force the issue, and get myself a perm! After all, if your hair looks perky, your whole look perks up!

But as is often the case with a perm, it takes some time to settle. In other words: right now I'm sporting a big afro.

It's been two weeks, and I'd kind of forgotten all about it when my aunt came to visit. As I opened the door to let her in, I saw her eyes widen with a mixture of glee and alarm.

'What did you to do to your hair?' she asked me.
'Erm… I got myself a perm,' I said, and tried to smooth my afro down a bit.
'That must have cost you a fortune,' she said.
'No, I went to a cheap hairdresser.'
She nodded solemnly and said with pity in her voice: 'That's what I thought.'

I felt a bit unsettled after this conversation. But you couldn't tell by looking at me.

Because my hair looked as perky as ever.

  1. LOL your aunt sounds fun!! my mom loves big perms like that... it will relax and at least you dont have to do alot with it now! 😉 (from a SITS girl!)

  2. Hahaha! I don't even want to think about what someone would think if they knocked on my door and saw my hair. I am in desperate need of a haircut and it shows. Too funny.

  3. My mom used to get perms all the time...we always teased her about it. We joked that she looked like a poodle haha. Well hope your perkiness stays & your hair relaxes 🙂

  4. I have naturally curly hair so I have never really understood the drive to perm ones hair 🙂 Having a sense of perky is neat though, i like that mindset! I think it is awesome you took a chance!
