There's no use fighting over Brussels Sprouts

brussels sprouts
'Right! This Sunday we're having Brussels Sprouts!' hubby declared haughtily and threw a bag of Brussels Sprouts on the table.

But I had planned vegetable soup!

I was unpleasantly surprised, because I had planned some nice and easy-to-make vegetable soup for our Sunday dinner.
So I asked: 'Will you be doing the cooking next Sunday then?'
'Yes,' hubby declared. 'Because you're álways making vegetable soup on Sundays, and I don't wanna have soup anymore.'

As I saw him standing there with his bad attitude, I felt a great need to kick him in his sprouts.

'You could have discussed this with me first!'
'You néver discuss your vegetable soup with me!' hubby struck back, in the bitter tones of someone who has had it bad for a long, long time.

'Wait a minute!'

I took a deep breath to give him a speech about 'mutual respect' and 'I don't come to your office and start telling you how to run things, now do I!' when I suddenly thought: 'Wait a minute! Why do I care if I don't have to do the cooking?!' That's when I realized it was time to beat a hasty yet elegant retreat.

So I said magnanimously: 'I you continue on like this, you may cook áll the meals from now on!'

  1. So timely SO funny. I made a big pot of soup last night. My husband isn't really a soup man, he's a gumbo man. Well this ain't gumbo baby. He fixed a little bowl that heated up a frozen sandwich from Sam's saying he didn't have a taste for soup. I shrugged to myself, I just know I'm not cooking again until Sunday so there.

  2. Cute blog! I am so glad my husband always will eat soup on sunday :-)

  3. My hubby feels the same way about how often I cook soups---but he eats three bowls EVERY time I make them....and he's NEVER offer to cook so...

  4. We cooked brussel sprouts for the first time this Thanksgiving. The kids were doubtful (so was I), but they turned out great and now appear regularly on the menu. Though, I'm not sure I want brussel sprout soup.

  5. Hahaha, perfect comeback! Every once in awhile my hubby will complain about having the same things over and over again. I typically reply just as you did. "If you want something different put on your man-apron and get cooking, mister!"

  6. You should have put the brussel sprouts in the souop, hahahaha. Kidding. :D My hubby loves soup, but only if it's alongside a big meal, lol.

  7. LOL!! Thats good that he cooked!

  8. Does he know what he's gotten himself into?;)

  9. too funny! I hope enjoyed his brussel sprouts.
