It must be my fault

downton abbey

I'm a big fan of the series Downton Abbey. I very much appreciate the lifestyle!

Would you like a cup of tea?

'Would you like a cup of tea?' Lady Mary asked a visitor yesterday. Usually when someone wants a cup of tea, you then have to go into the kitchen and make some. But not in Downton Abbey!

Lady Mary walked to a corner of the room, and with an elegant gesture pulled a big rope. Within minutes a servant appeared, to get her whatever she wanted.

Women are without fault!

Aside from the practical benefits, I also love the way women are put on a pedestal in Downton Abbey. Sure, they have no rights to anything, but at the same time they're treated with great care.

For example: there's been trouble brewing in the marriage of two servants.

'It múst be my fault,' the husband pondered earnestly. 'Because she is faultless.'

My husband's policy...

I couldn't wait to tell my husband about this. Because his policy is exactly the other way around:

'It's always somebody else's fault. Never his.'

  1. rights vs. being on a pedestal ALL THE TIME...so tough to choose. My MIL has suggested this show, may have to give it a try, make sure my husband is listening in the background, bc yes nothing is EVER his fault. Amiright?

  2. You are so right. I love Downton Abbey. And the women are so elegant: in talking, walking, dressing. Amazing!

  3. I love that show! And I totally agree that THAT must be the life! We went to a Downton Abbey themed dance for Valentines Day last year. It was so much fun to dress in period clothes.

  4. My husband has the very same policy. It is always someone else's fault. Even the universe. Of course, he has a little pity party he likes to have with his finger pointing. :)
